BIBLE QUILTS

I had a dream the other night about finding a quilt in a drawer at my aunts house, and I immediately was taken back to times spending the night at grandma's house and sleeping under that very quilt.  When I woke up I remembered some quilts I had made for my parents and Howard's parents for Christmas many years ago.  They were Bible quilts, depicting different stories from the Bible.  They were hand painted and very beautiful.  Our parents were were so pleased to receive them.  My folks put the quilt on their bed and it is there to this day.  They have had many years of enjoyment from the handmade reminder that God is always close to them.  Howard's father was very ill at the time and he passed away a short time after that Christmas.  Howard's mom put the quilt away as a keepsake.  A few years ago, while we were visiting her, she took us into her bedroom and brought out a huge white gift box.  When she opened it, there was their Bible quilt.  She told us that she held it dear to her heart, and wanted it to remain in the family.  She asked if it was okay if she gave it to our only son, Lee, for his home.  I was overtaken with her love for us and our son.  We told her we would be honored for her to pass it on down to our only son.  The three of us hugged and cried and then moved on with our lives.  Lee has this quilt tucked away as a keepsake in his home, a reminder that God is with him and his family always, and also he understands how much his grandmother loves him.  Sometimes we think we are just giving gifts, but so often we are giving memories that are passed down through the family and continue to bring joy for years go come.  Thanks mom for loving us and our son so much.  We love you so much and are so thankful to have had your love with us for 90 years!
