The
Glowing Light
As
Victoria lay there
in her bed, she
thought she was
asleep and dreaming
as she opened her
eyes. A bright light
came through her
window and it kept
getting brighter as
the evening went on.
She
slid to the side of
the bed and put her
feet in her
slippers. Very
slowly she walked
over to the window
and looked
out. Her
back yard was all
lit up. She looked
toward her friends
houses on both sides,
and it was
dark. She was just a
little afraid, but more curious.
It
was yellow and soft,
kind of fuzzy, kind
of like a fog was
around it, not on
the ground exactly.
What if a space ship
had landed in her
back yard?
What if a bunch of
green men came out
and started to run
around the
yard? She was
really curious now.
She put on her robe
to go outside.
She
had to be careful
not to wake
her parents. She
knew where all the
squeaky boards were,
because many times
she had gone to the
refrigerator to get
ice cream or juice
after everyone was
in bed.
Slowly
she walked close to
the wall and then to
the steps; she
knew there was one
next to the top that
was really squeaky
so she didn’t even
step on it.
Finally
she got to the back patio
doors;
locked! Now she
had to unlock them
quietly, which was
hard to do, but she
finally got them
open. Oh my goodness
she thought, where is
Angel? She barks at
everything, why
hasn’t she barked
at the light? She
looked over and
Angel was looking at
her, head turned to
one side, ears
sticking straight
up, as
to say, what
are you doing
up?
Victoria put her finger
to her lips and
said, "shhhh, don’t
bark
now."
She
slid
open the
doors. Angel
got up and stretched
and then walked to
the glass doors.
Victoria said,
"okay,
you can go with me
but be real quiet."
As she
walked out the
doors, she
looked up, and all she
could see was a huge
round ball of some
kind. It was hazy
out, the foggy mist
was really bad now
that she was
outside. She began
to feel a little
nervous, but
curiosity got the
best of her. She
held on to the hand
railing and then
reached and got
Angel by the
collar. They both went
toward the light.
About
the time she got
to the bottom of
the steps, the
patio light came
on and she
screamed and
looked back! There
stood mom and
dad. "What are you
doing
outside" mom
asked?
"I
woke up and my
room was full of
light, it kept
getting brighter
and
brighter. I
wondered what it
was." Mom
began to
laugh.
"Oh Victoria,
it's the new dusk
to dawn light we
had installed
yesterday." After
a few minutes
Victoria and her
parents went back
inside to bed, and
Angel settled down
to sleep.
Enough excitement
for one
night. Lucy
