Now is

Through The Looking Glass

As a child, visiting at grandma's house, we loved to go through her wardrobe.  She had the most beautiful hats, shoes and dresses.  She loved for us to play dress up, and we loved it even more.  It was like Christmas coming in the middle of summer!  When grandma said "Let's go see what we can find" we knew what was coming next.  We all ran into her bedroom and got on the bed, waiting for her to start the game we loved so much.

First, the hats, gloves and shoes would come out.  We got to try them all on, and pick a pair each.  The gloves were like giant turtle necks for our arms, but we didn't care, in our eyes they fit just fine!  And hats, I cannot remember ever seeing so many pretty little hats.  Grandma was a very tall, thin lady, so she had no part of a big brimmed hat, no sir, she had petite and lady-like hats.  We loved 'em too!

Next, out came the dresses.  She even let us wear her Sunday church dresses.  I look back now and cannot even imagine the fun she must have had, three girls all giggling and picking out what we wanted to put on and prance around the house in, pretending we were movie stars!  She was truly a special grandma.

When we were all dressed up, she got the jewelry out and we got to choose what we wanted to wear.  There didn't seem to be any pieces we were not allowed to touch or pick up, or wear!  In our young minds we had died and gone to heaven!  Our moms would have died had they been there!  That's why grandma's are so special in little girls eyes.

Now grown up and living in grandma's house, I have a Chevel mirror identical to the one at the top of this page.  My bedroom now is the same room that grandma and grand-daddy used as their room, the very room we three little girls had so much fun dressing up in grandma's fancy clothes and shoes.

Every day I am reminded of things past, memories made so many years ago that helped mold me into the woman I am today.  I was so blessed as a child to have such a great grandma, and I am blessed today to be able to live every day of my life in grandma's house.  I see and hear sights every day that remind me of how fortunate I was to be able to grow up in this house and share so many memories with my family, then and now.
