From Obligation And Fear Of Retaliation

Finally the day has come I can get some rest,
I’ve learned a new definition of the word "Best".

Best is a word used when something is needed in a hurry,
Best is a friend  you want with no worry.

Best friend should be someone who gives in return,
Also a love and kindness you don’t have to earn.

Some have used the word and it drips like poison ink,
It falls from ones lips and makes the heart sink.

It is used so carelessly and tossed to and fro,
Comes whenever necessary and then it's let go.

Strange how wonderful you are when you give but are never asked to take,
The other is always perfect and never makes a mistake.

You are the best in the world when a person is in need,
You must realize that sometimes it's not friendship but greed.

But finally the day will come and relief will be in sight,
Without fear of retaliation and obligation things feel all right.

I have not lost but gained another through the long dark night,
The battle is over and I have won the fight.

I gained from the experience something real and new,
A true friend I do not fear and that friend is "YOU".
