HELEN'S WORLD

She wakes each morning with a cloud upon her mind
Gets up out of bed and leaves the night behind
She leaves her bed of dreaming fear
Hoping to find her parents near

She calls their names for all to hear
Hoping today they will be near
She walks the road to her old home place
Feeling at home in that familiar space

Is mommy here, have you seen her today
I have to go and be on my way
There are people up there in my home
I wish they would all just leave me alone

Yes, I know my mommy is dead
But could you tell her it is time for bed
I am so worried, daddy hasn't come home
He would never leave me all alone

He will be here soon tired from his work
She looks around, on her face a smirk
I am afraid, I have to move away
I can't stay here another day

Okay, I see, I guess you are right,
I will go home for another night.
Good night God, keep me near
When will mommy and daddy be here?

This poem is for my Aunt Helen who suffers from Alzheimer's
